How to Classify Points Around a Line
The Classify Points Around a Line Within a Distance tool will select and modify the classification of points within a given distance of a line drawn by you in the profile window. The destination classification is denoted by the currently selected classification in the destination class box or by pressing a number key to commit the selection to the classification which represents the number. The destination class for editing around a line is remembered, so that if you use other tools and come back to these editing tools, the destination class previously used will automatically be selected.
Only those points drawn on the screen can be selected and edited. Points that do not qualify according to the display filter or current legend will NOT be drawn on the screen. If points are committed to a classification that currently is not included in the display filter or legend, the points will disappear in the refresh of the profile window after the commit of the points are complete. If points are committed to a classification that is included in the filter and legend, the points will be colored with respect to their classification.
Note: The points drawn in the profile window are always at 100% resolution regardless of the scale of the map containing the active LIDAR Layer.
Steps to Classify Points around a Line
1. Click the Classify Around Line tool in the toolbar.
2. Click in the profile window to start the line.
3. Each successive click will add a vertex to the line and select the points around the line.
4. To commit the selected points, press the space bar for the currently selected destination cl ssification, or a number key corresponding to the correct destination classification. If a number key is used, that number or classification is now the currently selected destination classification.
If the points are selected but do not change to the destination class, you likely need to change the LAS files(s) to read/write. Follow the second tool requirement to open LAS files with read/write access.
