Measure Tool in the Immersive View
LP360 includes a dedicated Measure tool that can be used directly within Immersive View (IV), allowing you to interactively measure distances between two points in the 3D scene without leaving the immersive environment.
Accessing the Measure Tool in Immersive View
The Measure tool is available from the Immersive View toolbar and uses the same icon as the standard map Measure tool. When enabled, measurement mode operates entirely within Immersive View.
Creating Measurements
- Measurements are created by picking points directly in the 3D scene.
- After placing the first point, you can continue navigating the scene (rotate, zoom, and pan) before placing the second point.
- Measurement results are displayed within Immersive View to ensure they remain visible during immersive navigation.
Editing and Canceling Picks
While measuring in Immersive View, the following controls are available:
- Esc removes the last picked point.
- Esc can also cancel the previous pick.
These controls allow you to refine or restart a measurement without exiting the Measure tool .
Distance Components and Measurement Breakdown
In addition to the full 3D distance between the selected points, the Measure tool can display a breakdown of distance components to help interpret spatial relationships when points are not at the same elevation. These components may include:
- Horizontal and vertical distance components
- Axis-specific distances (X, Y, and Z)
- Plane-based distances (XY, XZ, and YZ)
This breakdown is especially useful when it is difficult to pick points at exactly the same elevation in a 3D view.
Visual Measurement Aids
To support interpretation of the reported distances, the Measure tool may display visual indicators in the 3D scene, including:
- Colored line segments representing different distance components
- Horizontal and vertical plane lines displayed alongside the primary measurement line
The horizontal plane is drawn using the elevation (Z) of the starting (“from”) point, helping to visually distinguish horizontal separation from vertical offset.
Measurement Summary Display
When using the Measure tool, a grouped distance summary is displayed, presenting the various distance components together for easy reference.
How to Measure Distances in the Immersive View
1. Select the Measure tool in the Immersive Viewer.
2. Left-click to snap to a point to start the measure line.
3. Move the mouse to the end location and left-click to snap to a point to end the segment. When using the Measure tool, a grouped distance summary is displayed, presenting the various distance components together for easy reference.
4. Press the "Esc" key to cancel or end the measure operation. Or, left-click to snap to a point to start the next measure line.
5. Select the Measure tool again in the Immersive Viewer to disable the tool.
