The Import Area Features tool is a key component of the Volume tab of the ribbon in LP360, introduced in version 2025.2 to streamline volumetric analysis workflows. It allows users to bring in external area features—typically polygon boundaries representing stockpiles, pits, or other volumetric regions—into LP360 for use in volume computations.
This tool is a constrained opening of the broader Add Files Feature tab, meaning it provides a simplified, focused interface specifically tailored for importing area features relevant to volumetric analysis, without exposing the full range of file types and configurations available in the general Add Files workflow.
🧭 How It Works in the Volumetric Workflow
-
Launch the Tool
- Click Import Area Features
from the Volume tab of the ribbon.
- Opens a dialog that allows users to select and import shapefiles or feature layers containing area polygons.
- Click Import Area Features
-
Select and Import
- Choose a shapefile or feature layer with polygon boundaries.
- The tool imports these features into LP360 and adds them to the Active Area Layer.
-
Layer Management
- By default, imported features are added to a new layer.
-
Use the Review Area Features
tool to inspect vertices, perimeter, area, and elevation.
-
Edit features using tools like Select/Edit Vertices
, Add Vertex
, Delete Vertex
, Reshape Geometry
, and Define Z
for elevation adjustments.
-
Integration with Compute Volumes
- Once imported, these area features can be used in the Compute Volume
tool to calculate cut/fill volumes between base and hull surfaces.
- The imported areas define the spatial extent for volume calculations.
- Once imported, these area features can be used in the Compute Volume
