The Compute Volume tool can be found on the Volume tab. This tool utilizes the functions of the Volumetric Analysis PCT.
If an existing feature layer is not selected for the Volume Layer on the Volume tab, selecting the Compute Volume tool will open the Create Feature Layer dialog. This dialog will auto-populate:
- New Shapefile Path defaults to the open Project Path
- New Feature Layer Name defaults to Volumes_Layer_1
- Geometry Type defaults to 3-D Polygon
- Coordinate System defaults to open Project coordinate reference system (CRS).
After the new feature is created, the Compute Volume dialog will appear (Figure 1).
Volume Settings:
-
Volume Computation Method - method for estimating volumes depending on the surface being measured.
- This includes the following options: All, Fill, Fill-Cut, Cut, Cut-Fill. Descriptions for Cut versus Fill are listed below.
- Cut - the difference of the areas with a positive volume comparison (example: A polygon drawn around the base of a hill would result in a volume labeled Cut).
- Fill - the difference of the areas with a negative volume comparison (example: A polygon drawn around a hole would result in a volume labeled Fill).
- This includes the following options: All, Fill, Fill-Cut, Cut, Cut-Fill. Descriptions for Cut versus Fill are listed below.
-
Output Volume Units - units the estimated volumes will be computed in.
- This includes the following options: Feet, Meters, Yards
- Output LAS File - Optional. This will generate a new LAS layer within the boundary of the Area Layer where elevation will be the height above the base surface.
-
Additional Output Attributes - Optional - Checking these boxes will add these attributes into the output Volumes_Layer_1.
- Options include:
- Cut Volume
- Fill Volume
- Diagnostic Attributes
- Options include:
-
Use Selected Area(s) Only - is an optional feature that allows you to:
- Restrict volume computations exclusively to the areas you have selected.
- Avoid processing the entire volume layer, focusing calculations on specific polygons.
- This option is useful for targeted volumetric analysis within a larger dataset.
-
Submit to Job Manager - is an optional feature that allows for:
- Offloading the volume computation task to the Job Manager
.
- Efficient handling of large or lengthy processing jobs.
- Offloading the volume computation task to the Job Manager
- PCT Settings - Opens the Volumetric Analysis PCT settings dialog for advanced settings.
Note - Settings for the Compute Volumes tool can also be modified using the following steps:
- Press the Volumetric Workflow Settings
button on the Volumes tab.
- Select the
Compute Volume option.
- The Volumetric Workflow Compute Volume Properties dialog will appear.
