Requires an LP360 Geospatial Standard and above, LP360 Drone, or LP360 Land Standard license.
The Volume tab in LP360 is a specialized ribbon interface designed to streamline volumetric analysis workflows. It provides tools for calculating and managing cut/fill volumes, stockpile measurements, and other terrain-based volume computations using LiDAR data. This tab is part of LP360’s broader suite of point cloud processing capabilities and is especially useful for professionals in mining, construction, and land development.

Key Features
1. Compute Volumes Dialog
The centerpiece of the Volumes tab is the Compute Volumes dialog, introduced in version 2025.2. This dialog allows users to:
- Define basic settings for the Volumetric Analysis Point Cloud Task (PCT).
- Execute volume calculations on active LAS and feature layers.
- Automatically determine Output Volume Units based on the active LAS layer’s unit system.
- Append results to an existing feature layer or create a new one using the Volumes Layer dropdown.
2. Import Area Features
The Import Area Features command has been enhanced to:
- Display only the Features tab in the Add Files dialog.
- Restrict imports to 3D polygons, ensuring compatibility with volumetric analysis tasks.
3. Volumetric Analysis Properties
The Volumes tab integrates with the Volumetric Analysis property pages, which include:
- Hull Property Page: Defines the upper surface boundary using LAS points, polygon vertices, or a constant elevation.
- Base Property Page: Sets the lower surface for volume comparison.
- Volume Property Page: Specifies output file location and attributes such as total volume, cut, fill, and surface statistics.
- Cut/Fill Image Page: Enables generation of visual representations of cut and fill areas.
- LAS Output Page: Controls optional LAS file outputs.
4. Digitized Input Macro
For quick volume assessments, the Volumetric Analysis, Digitized Input macro allows users to:
- Digitize a polygon directly on the map.
- Automatically run a predefined volumetric analysis using typical settings.
- Generate output shapefiles and cut/fill images with minimal setup.
Best Practices
- Always ensure your Active LAS Layer is correctly set before initiating volume computations.
- Use the Volumes Layer dropdown to manage where output shapefiles are stored and whether they append to existing layers or create new ones.
- For consistent results, verify that your project coordinate system and units are properly configured.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If the Volumes tab does not appear, ensure that your license includes volumetric tools.
- For issues with output files not appearing or being misnamed, check the Volume Property Page settings and ensure the Add to Map option is selected.
- If using the Digitized Input macro, confirm that the Project Path is set and that the input polygon is properly digitized.
