Modifying the Squaring Angle
About the Squaring Angle
The squaring angle parameter represents the angle between traced boundary edges (i.e., point to point) where boundary edges with angles less than the value will be merged into a single edge. Thresholds between thirty and forty-five degrees appear to work well with the default value of 30 seeming to be most appropriate for point cloud data.Effects of Increasing or Decreasing the Squaring Angle
- Increasing Value: Larger squaring angles produce longer edges and have a smoothing effect, but if the angle is too large, the corner edges of the object might be missed.
-
- Decreasing Value: Smaller squaring angles produce more and shorter edges and might also miss an actual corner if the trace boundary has a bulge at the corner.
How to Modify the Squaring Angle
Squaring Angle Text Box
- On the Point Group Tracing and Squaring property page, type the new Squaring Angle in the Squaring Angle box.
- Click the Apply button to commit the change.
