About the Vertical Scale

The Vertical Scale can be increased to stretch the z values or decreased to compact the Z values of the profile view. Increasing the vertical scale is useful to display or emphasize differences in z values that are very similar such as flat areas.

How to Modify the Vertical Scale

Set Vertical Scale tool

Select the Set Vertical Scale tool from the Profile Window toolbar. 

• Slide the slider or enter a desired vertical scale in the dialog.

Ctrl + Mouse Wheel

While pressing the "Ctrl" key, scroll the mouse wheel forward to increase the vertical scale and backward to decrease the vertical scale.

Tip Make sure the Profile Window is the active window in ArcMap™, otherwise the mouse wheel will pan the map instead of modifying the vertical scale of the Profile Window. Click on the toolbar section of the window, not the title bar of the window.
