Point Cloud Statistics Tool
LIDAR datasets are large and require extensive quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure desired accuracies and product results. Statistics play an important role in evaluating LIDAR data in an efficient manner during such this QA/QC process.
Using the Point Cloud Statistics (PCS), information can be extracted from the loaded LAS Layer. Unlike the PCT version of this tool, the Active LAS Layer does not have to be changed in order to select a different LAS Layer for statistic extraction. The Point Cloud Layer drop down provides a user will the ability to select any LAS Layer within the open project.
Using the Group Attribute option allows for extraction based on Classification, Flightline, Return Number, User Data, or Number of Returns.
Engaging the “Extract by Files” option users may gather the header data from each LAS file in the dataset. Doing so provides a means to evaluate the compliance and completeness of each LAS file received.
The PCS tool can be executed over the entire LAS layer (By Layer option); by Rectangle, Polygon, or Circle; and By Feature Layer. Using the By Feature Layer option will open a small dialog allowing the user to select the desired feature layer within the open project.
In addition to the General tab where extraction items (statistics) can be chosen, this tool also offers the ability to select Point Attributes and Header Attributes to be extractor from the LAS layer as well. See Below.
When executed, the tool will automatically create a output folder within the project folder. The output file from this tool will be a shapefile containing all selected attributes. To review the attributes, right-click on the new feature layer and open the Feature Analyst.
