Modifying Annotation Frequency
About Annotation Frequency
Annotation frequency is the posting frequency of labels in the map. To increase the frequency of posting, decrease the spacing or distance. And to decrease the frequency of posting, increase the spacing or distance. The spacing or distance can be specified in inches (i.e., screen units) or map units. By default inches or screen units are used which allows you to keep the distance between annotation consistent as the map is zoomed in and out. Using map units is useful when printing or when you wish to freeze the posting distance as the map is zoomed in and out.The actual distance between labels (as defined along the contour as opposed to an euclidean distance) will vary based on the characteristics of the contours. If the contours are very smooth, the annotation will likely conform to the distance specified better than if the contours are very rough. Annotation will only be located in spots along the contours if all of the contour line beneath the annotation stays completely within the area of the text. Upon a nonqualifying location, the program will move to the next acceptable location to post annotation and then move the specified frequency distance along the contour to attempt another posting.
