Attempting to activate the additional Metashape console license for Agisoft Ortho Mapping using the EXP tab of Project Settings
results in an Activation Error stating, “Can't use license: License expired”.
The details reference metashape-pro.lic and include messages similar to the following:
Activated: False Can't use license C:/ProgramData/Agisoft/Licensing/licenses/metashape-pro.lic License expired No license server found Can't use license: License expired RuntimeError: Can't use license: License expired
The dialog may also include a Python traceback referencing metashape_lic.py.
🔍 Root Cause
In this error, Metashape is finding an expired standard Metashape Professional license, identified by metashape-pro.lic, rather than the additional console license required for Agisoft Ortho Mapping.
The expired license may have originated from a 30-day initial installation trial or another temporary Metashape Pro activation. The error alone does not establish which temporary license was used.
This does not necessarily mean that your Agisoft Ortho Mapping console license key has expired. The expired standard license must be addressed, and the correct console license key must be used for activation.
🧠What is the Metashape Console License?
The Agisoft Ortho Mapping Metashape Console License Key is the additional license used to run Metashape processing through LP360's Agisoft Ortho Mapping tool. It is separate from a standard Metashape Professional license used with the standalone Metashape desktop application.
For this troubleshooting scenario, the license filename is an important diagnostic clue: metashape-pro.lic identifies the standard Metashape Pro license, while an *sdk*.lic filename indicates an SDK/console license.
These instructions apply to additional console-license activation on the EXP tab. They are not instructions for 3D Photo Engine licensing or floating-license-server setup.
âś… Probable Resolutions
Verify That You Have the Correct Console License Key
Sign in to the LP360 Portal and locate the Agisoft Ortho Mapping Metashape Console License Key under Admin → Organization. Contact your organization's administrator if you do not have access.
Use this console license key, not a standard Metashape Pro trial or temporary activation key. If your organization does not have a console license key, contact LP360 Support to confirm your licensing options.
Address the Expired Standard Metashape Pro License
If the error specifically identifies metashape-pro.lic as expired, close LP360 and any running Metashape applications before making changes.
If you have confirmed that this file belongs to an expired trial or temporary license that is no longer needed, back up the exact file identified in the error. Then rename that file from metashape-pro.lic to metashape-pro.lic.expired-backup so it is no longer loaded as a license file. Administrator permission may be required.
Do not delete the licensing folder, modify license-file contents, or rename other license files, including *sdk*.lic files. This folder may also be used by a separately installed Metashape application. If you use Metashape Pro independently, are unsure who owns the license, or cannot confirm that the file is an expired temporary license, contact Support before changing it.
Activate the Agisoft Ortho Mapping Console License Again
Reopen LP360 and navigate to File → Project Settings → EXP. In the Agisoft Ortho Mapping section, select Check Activation Status.
If Metashape is not activated, paste your Agisoft Ortho Mapping Metashape Console License Key into the Activation Key field and select Activate.

“No license server found” does not, by itself, mean that you need to install a floating license server. In the example above, the actionable diagnostic is the expired metashape-pro.lic file.
If another error appears after retrying activation, follow the guidance for that specific error:
Retain the original error details and the backed-up license file until activation is resolved. Do not publish activation keys or license-file contents in screenshots or public posts.
