LP360 utilizes both CPU and GPU resources; however, the relative importance of the graphics card varies significantly depending on the workflow being performed.
For most LP360 Desktop operations, including project management, data import, classification, feature extraction, geoprocessing, and many analysis workflows, overall performance is primarily driven by CPU speed, available RAM, and storage performance. A dedicated GPU is still recommended to provide a smooth visualization experience when working with large point clouds, imagery, and 3D datasets, but GPU compute performance is generally not the primary processing bottleneck.
How LP360 Uses the GPU
Most LP360 processing workflows are CPU-bound and benefit primarily from faster processors, additional system memory, and high-performance NVMe storage. GPU performance is most important for:
- Visualization and display of large point cloud datasets
- TrueView GO (TGO) Insta360 processing
- TrueView GO High Precision Coloring (HPC)
- Modeling (MDL) workflows including 3D Mesh and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)
- 3D Photo Engine and Agisoft Ortho Mapping (MfE) workflows

Workflow-Specific Notes
TrueView GO (TGO) Insta360 and HPC
Insta360 processing and High Precision Coloring (HPC) are currently among the most GPU-sensitive workflows in LP360. These workflows require a minimum NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti GPU, an Intel Core i7-class processor or better, and at least 32 GB of system memory.
Organizations processing large image collections or running frequent TGO workflows will generally benefit from newer RTX-class hardware such as the RTX 4060, RTX 4070, RTX 5070, or equivalent workstation GPUs.
Modeling (MDL)
Modeling jobs, including both 3D Mesh generation and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), benefit significantly from additional GPU capability and available VRAM.
For routine production work, GeoCue recommends RTX 4070-class or RTX 5070-class hardware (or equivalent workstation GPUs) with at least 12 GB of VRAM and 64 GB or more of system memory.
Users routinely producing large meshes or high-quality Gaussian Splatting models should strongly consider workstation-class GPUs such as the RTX 4000 Ada, RTX A4000, RTX 5000 Ada, or higher.
3D Photo Engine and Agisoft Ortho Mapping (MfE)
MfE (Metashape for EVO) originated from the original Metashape for EVO workflow and is now the job type utilized by both the Agisoft Ortho Mapping tool and the 3D Photo Engine tool.
Processing performance generally scales with GPU capability, available VRAM, CPU performance, and system memory capacity.
For routine production work, GeoCue recommends RTX 4070-class hardware or better. Large orthomosaic, surface modeling, and photo reconstruction projects will benefit from workstation GPUs with 12 GB to 20 GB or more of VRAM.
LP360 GPU Recommendation Categories
| Category | Typical Hardware | LP360 Suitability |
|---|---|---|
| Excellent | RTX 4000 Ada, RTX 4070+, RTX A4000+, RTX 5000 Ada+, Radeon Pro W7800+ | Ideal for all LP360 workflows |
| Recommended | RTX A2000, RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RTX 3070, Intel Arc B580 | Excellent balance of cost and performance |
| Acceptable | RTX 3050, RTX 3050 Ti, GTX 1660 Ti | Suitable for most users |
| Marginal | GTX 1650, GTX 1050 Ti, Intel Iris Xe | May struggle with larger datasets |
| Not Recommended | Intel UHD Graphics and older integrated graphics | May negatively impact visualization performance |
Summary
For most LP360 workflows, investing in a fast CPU, sufficient RAM, and NVMe storage will provide the largest performance gains. A dedicated GPU becomes increasingly important for visualization performance, TGO Insta360 processing, High Precision Coloring (HPC), Modeling (MDL), and MfE workflows utilizing Agisoft Metashape.
For new systems, GeoCue recommends an NVIDIA RTX-class GPU whenever possible, with RTX 3060-class hardware or better providing an excellent balance of cost, performance, and long-term capability. Users focused on TGO, Modeling, or MfE production workflows should strongly consider RTX 4070-class hardware or higher.
