📌 Problem
When importing a TrueView dataset into LP360, the user may be presented with the warning, "Minimal TrueView Cycle Detected - This appears to be a Minimal TrueView Cycle. (Missing CycleParams.json and/or CyclePath.csv file)."
This typically occurs when one or more required Cycle metadata files—such as CycleParams.json and/or CyclePath.csv—are missing from the Cycle folder. When these files are not present, LP360 may detect the dataset as a Minimal TrueView Cycle rather than a complete TrueView cycle.
🧠What This Means
A standard TrueView Cycle normally includes additional system and metadata files that are generated when the sensor is properly shut down after data collection. These files allow LP360 to fully validate the Cycle structure and automate processing steps.
If CycleParams.json and/or CyclePath.csv are missing, LP360 cannot treat the dataset as a complete TrueView Cycle. However, the dataset may still be usable if the minimum required files are present.
🔍 Root Cause
- The sensor was powered off before data writing completed
- The system was not properly shut down using the sensor web interface
- The data transfer from the sensor storage was interrupted or incomplete
- Files were manually moved, renamed, or partially copied after collection
Any of these conditions can prevent required Cycle metadata files from being created or retained, resulting in an incomplete Cycle structure.
âś… Probable Resolutions
-
Use the Minimal TrueView Workflow
If the Cycle folder contains the minimum required files (such as a valid
SystemConfiguration.json, at least one trajectory file, and raw LiDAR data), the dataset can usually be processed using the Minimal TrueView workflow. The Minimal TrueView workflow allows LP360 to import and process datasets that are missing auxiliary Cycle files, including
CycleParams.jsonandCyclePath.csv, while still using the TrueView processing pipeline.Learn more about the Minimal TrueView Workflow
Note: The Minimal TrueView workflow is intended for recovery and special‑case scenarios. If a complete and healthy TrueView Cycle is available, the standard TrueView workflow should be used instead.
Note: The SystemConfiguration.json can usually be found:
- On the sensor's USB
- Inside a previous Cycle\System folder
- Inside a previous Project\Area\Cycle\System folder
-
Reinsert the USB Storage Device and Retry the Download
This issue may also occur if the data download from the sensor’s USB storage device was interrupted or incomplete, resulting in missing Cycle files.
- Safely eject and reinsert the USB storage device into the system
- Verify that the operating system fully recognizes the USB device
- Recopy the entire Cycle folder to a local drive
- Confirm that all files and subfolders were copied successfully
After the data has been fully copied, retry importing the Cycle in LP360.
📚Prevention
To prevent missing Cycle metadata files in future collections:
- Confirm in the sensor web interface that it is safe to power down
- Do not remove power or storage media until data writing has completed
- Verify Cycle contents before copying or archiving the data
Following proper shutdown and data transfer procedures helps ensure all required Cycle files are created and saved correctly.
