Customizing your LP360 interface can dramatically improve workflow efficiency. LP360’s recent GUI improvements introduced a more flexible toolbar and ribbon system, allowing you to tailor the interface to match your most frequent tasks—whether you're analyzing LAS files, managing point cloud data, or guiding trainees through workflows.
To begin customizing toolbars:
- Go to the Options Menu on the LP360 Menu bar.
- Select Customize Toolbar.
- In the dialog that opens, you can:
- Toggle toolbars on/off.
- Rearrange commands.
- Create new toolbars or ribbon groups.
- Adjust icon size (Small/Large).
- Show shortcut keys in tooltips.
🧩 Adding Commands and Groups
- You can drag and drop individual commands into your custom toolbar.
- Groups can be added but note that moving groups via arrows may not work due to a known bug.
- Some controls like Active LAS Layer/Filter Combos are custom tool-types and currently not available in the customize dialog.
🎨 Icon Size and Layout
- Use the View Menu → Toolbar Icons to change icon size depending on your screen size or preference.
🧠 Shortcut Key Customization
- Navigate to Options → Customize Toolbar → Keyboard tab.
- Assign shortcuts to ribbon tools (not available for Profile View tools).
- Enable Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips for easier learning.
⚠️ Known Limitations & Workarounds
- 3D and Profile View Toolbars are still using legacy systems and cannot be customized. These will eventually be replaced by Immersive View-based versions.
- Compact/Large command variants are not user-selectable yet. LP360 dynamically sets size and caption placement when adding commands to ribbons.
- Resetting Layout: Use the Reset Ribbon/Toolbars in the Options menu to reset toolbars/ribbons. The Shift-key method resets everything, including pane layout.
🧭 Step-by-Step: Creating a Custom Toolbar in LP360
1. Open the Customize Toolbar Dialog
- Go to the Options Menu on the LP360 Menu bar.
- Select Customize Toolbar.
- This opens the Customize dialog (Figure1), where you can manage toolbars and keyboard shortcuts.
2. Create a New Toolbar
- In the Customize dialog, create a new toolbar by selecting New.
- Provide a unique name for your toolbar (e.g., “Point Cloud QA” or “Student Exercise Tools”).
- The empty toolbar will appear docked, typically below the Navigation toolbar.
3. Add Commands to Your Toolbar
- Browse through the available commands grouped by category (e.g., Classification, Feature Edit, Point Cloud) on the Commands tab of the Customize dialog.
- Drag and drop the desired commands into your new toolbar.
- You can mix tools from different categories.
- Some controls (like Active LAS Layer/Filter Combos) may not be available due to system limitations.
4. Assign Shortcut Keys (Optional but Recommended)
- In the Customize dialog, switch to the Keyboard tab.
- Select a command and press your desired key combination (e.g.,
Alt + P). - Click Assign to save it.
- To remove or reset a shortcut, use the Remove or Reset buttons.
5. Enable Shortcut Key Tooltips
- In the Customize dialog, go to the Options tab.
- Check the box labeled Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips.
- This displays your assigned shortcuts when hovering over toolbar icons.
6. Activate Your Toolbar
- In the Customize dialog, ensure your new toolbar has a checkmark next to its name.
- This means it’s active and visible in the LP360 interface.
7. Save and Share Your Setup
- LP360 saves your toolbar layout automatically.
- If you want to share it across teams, you can export all customizations from the Customize Ribbon Menu dialog or replicate the setup manually.
🧩 Tips for Success
- Use the Quick Access Toolbar to pin your most-used tools for faster access.
- Consider creating separate toolbars for different workflows (e.g., QA/QC, student exercises, LAS file analysis).
- If you encounter limitations (e.g., legacy 3D/Profile View tools), check for updates or contact support.
