📌 Problem
If you're encountering the following error in the log while running Agisoft Ortho Mapping :
File "metashape_workflow_functionsTVE1.py", line 1285, in metashape_workflow_functionsTVE1.build_orthomosaic Exception: Zero resolution
This guide will help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
🔍 Root Cause
The error you're encountering in your log: Zero resolution during the build_orthomosaic step in Metashape—typically indicates that the software is unable to determine a valid resolution for generating the orthomosaic. This can happen due to several reasons. Here's how you can troubleshoot and fix it:
âś… Probable Resolutions
-
Set a Valid Pixel Size
Specify a pixel size of 2 cm or larger. -
Use a DEM
Create and use a DEM. View the DEM in LP360 to ensure it was generated correctly. Use Add Files and add this DEM to the Raster tab, does it show a valid number of rows and columns and the pixel size that you selected for the generation parameter?- Recommended DEM settings:
- Export Type: Surface Type
- Surface Method: IDW
- Pixel Size: 0.1 to 0.25
- Recommended DEM settings:
-
Set Projection
Ensure the project’s coordinate system matches the DEM. View the DEM in LP360 to ensure it covers the photo centers. -
Camera Alignment Issues
If cameras are misaligned, the resolution calculation may fail.
Fix: Select to allow Metashape to update the camera calibration. -
Poor Tie Point Cloud
A sparse or weak tie point cloud can prevent resolution estimation.
Fix: Increase the tie point limit and disable generic preselection. Re-align with higher accuracy settings. -
Missing or Invalid Dense Cloud
The orthomosaic requires a valid dense cloud.
Fix: Confirm that the dense cloud has been successfully generated. -
Insufficient Disk Space
Lack of disk space can interrupt the orthomosaic build process.
Fix: Free up space and retry the operation.
📎 Notes
- This error is common when skipping dense cloud or mesh steps without providing a DEM.
- Always validate your projection and pixel size.
