Overview
This workflow explains how to generate an orthomosaic using only nadir camera imagery from a multi‑camera TrueView payload in LP360. By excluding port and starboard (oblique) photos prior to ortho processing, users can reduce processing time and avoid artifacts when oblique imagery is unnecessary.
This approach is supported for LP360 ortho workflows, including Agisoft Ortho Mapping and Ortho Mapping, and is non‑destructive when performed on a copied photo layer.
When to Use This Workflow
Use a nadir‑only ortho workflow when:
- Faster ortho processing is desired.
- Oblique imagery introduces seamlines or artifacts.
- Vertical feature detail from obliques is not required.
- Adequate nadir overlap exists to support orthomosaic generation.
Trade‑off: Excluding oblique cameras reduces vertical feature detail and field of view compared to using all cameras.
To follow this workflow, we recommend having at least 40% sidelap in the Nadir camera. This corresponds to approximately 55% LiDAR sidelap for the TrueView 535 when working with an 80° LiDAR field of view.
Prerequisites
This workflow can only be performed after completing the following steps:
- Import one or more Cycles into LP360.
- Process the sensor trajectory.
- Generate TrueView trajectories with photo EXIF tags updated.
- (Recommended) Perform LiDAR geocoding.
These prerequisites are explicitly required for nadir‑only ortho processing.
Workflow Steps
- Copy the RetainedPhoto layer.
- Right‑click on the RetainedPhoto layer.
- Select Copy Feature Layer , name it RetainedPhoto_copy, and choose a folder.
- Right‑click RetainedPhoto_copy and open Feature Analyst .
Filter → CameraID → 1 - Select all (Ctrl + A) → Delete.
- Filter → CameraID → 2.
- Select all (Ctrl + A) → Delete.
- Remove all filters and confirm that only CameraID = 3 (Nadir) remains.
- On the Feature Edit tab, select Save Edits.
- Repeat the steps above for each Cycle.
- In Agisoft Ortho Mapping , select the RetainedPhoto_copy layer containing only Nadir imagery.
- Configure settings and submit the Ortho Mapping job.
(Recommended) Use a DEM that includes ground and buildings to reduce processing time. - Monitor the Job Manager . When complete, select Complete Job to add the Ortho and/or point cloud to your project.
Notes and Best Practices
- Nadir‑only workflows typically run significantly faster than multi‑camera ortho processing. [support.lp360.com]
- Ensure sufficient nadir sidelap; reduced overlap may result in gaps or poor alignment.
- Always preserve the original
RetainedPhotoslayer to allow reprocessing with obliques if needed.
