Adding a WMS Layer to the Map
The Add WMS Layer command allows you to easily add a Web Mapping Service (WMS) as a layer to the map. This provides the possibility of integrating vector data, LIDAR data, and a map layer over a Web server.
How to Add Data to the Map View
-
To add a WMS layer to the map, click the Add WMS Layer command
on the Project Tab.
-
In the WMS Basemaps dialog, the dialog will pre-populated with some options. Simply click one to add it to the TOC. It will be highlighted to show that it is added. A user may add multiple WMS layers. To remove the layer, simple click it again. The WMS/WMTS layer will reproject on the fly if the LAS layer is switched to a layer with a different SRS.
-
Clicking the Custom WMS Layer Manager button will open the Add WMS Layer dialog.
-
Clicking the WMS Manager button will open WMS Manager, where the user may Add... custom WMS basemap layers if they know the WMS Server URL.
-
WMS Layer Properties
Right-clicking on the WMS Layer in the Table of Contents and clicking 'Properties' allows the user to view metadata, such as the WMS Version and the Coordinate System. The user may also make the layer transparent here.
Adding a Custom WMS Layer Entry:
-
In the WMS Server URL field, enter the web address of the web server you want to use.
-
Click Get Layers.
-
Select the Available Layers in the displayed list and click the arrow to add them to the Selected Layers list.
-
Click OK.
-
Select the file(s) you want to add as a layer and click OK.
-
Click OK in the other two WMS dialogs. You should see the map as a layer in the map view.
Note
When a new project is created, LP360 attempts to set the SRS of the project using the first loaded LAS file. If this can not be done (for example, there are many LAS files with no defined SRS), the user should set one in 'Project Settings' (Use Project SRS) in order for the WMS/WMTS layer(s) to work correctly. In this case, the SRS set in the Project Settings dialog will always be used, regardless of the SRS of the Active LAS Layer.
