Selecting ASCII Files to Import
Selecting the ASCII files to import is the first of four steps in the process of importing text files and converting them to LAS files (or shapefiles if using a text file with control points). The selected text files must have the following common formatting properties.
-
The separation of the text must be consistent throughout the whole file. The same delimiter or fixed-width fields must be consistently used.
-
Fields and/or point attributes (e.g., intensity, classification, etc.) must be consistent within the files.
-
All selected text files must contain at least X, Y, and Z (Z is elevation) fields.
Step 1 also requires selecting an output folder for the end-result LAS or Shapefiles.
Then, when at least one text file has been selected, a preview of the text file will display in the ASCII Preview Window.
