About Out Areas
An "Out Area" is a closed breakline that excludes the interior area within the polygon from the surface. On the screen, out areas appear as "holes" in the surface. If a DEM was exported using out areas, the areas within the closed breaklines would be assigned no data values. How to Toggle the Out Area State
- Enable the check box in the "Out Area" field.
- If the checkbox is checked, the closed features will appear as holes, if not, the closed features will be included in the surface as normal.
When to Use Out Areas
One may wish to use out areas for:
- Waterbodies
- Perhaps to remove sensitive areas.
- To not generate contours in the interior of buildings.
- If the project area is a corridor or oddly shaped, then one can digitize polygons over areas with no data and use the out area option to ensure incorrect values of stretched triangles do not get used in those areas outside of the data. i.e., stop the edge of the Project TIN from bleeding.
