Delete Classes removes points of the classes you select from one or more LAS layers. Those points are taken out of the LAS files. Classes you leave unchecked stay in the files, in their original class.
Open Delete Classes from the Classification tab or the AI Classification tab, in the Cleanup Tools group. The same command is also on the Tools tab, in the General group.
| Note: To keep the points and only change their class, use Cleanup or Reset Classes. |
| Note: The tool uses every file in the selected LAS layer(s). It does not use the current map view, an area of interest, or the classes turned off in the map legend. |
1. LAS Layers
The first page of the Delete Classes wizard (Figure 1) is used to select the LAS layers to process.
The active LAS layer is checked when the dialog opens. Check any additional layers to process with the same class selection. Select all and Clear all are above the list.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Use | Check the LAS layers to process. |
| Name | Name of the LAS layer. |
| Files | Number of LAS files in the layer. |
| Points | Number of points in the layer. |
| Spatial Reference System | Coordinate system of the layer. Hover over the name to see the full description. |
Only LAS layers are listed. If the map has none, the list says “No LAS Layers found.”
| Note: A layer with 0 points cannot be used. Uncheck it before continuing. A layer whose files are locked for read/write cannot be used until that lock is cleared. |
2. Classes
The second page of the Delete Classes wizard (Figure 2) is used to choose which classes to remove.
Check the classes to remove. Unchecked classes are kept. The same classes are removed from every LAS layer selected on the first page.
The list shows classes 0 through 255, with the standard class name. Custom class names configured in LP360 are shown when they exist. The list is not limited to classes that contain points. Checking a class that has no points removes nothing for that class.
Select all and Clear all are above the list.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Use | Check the classes to delete. |
| ID | Class number, from 0 to 255. |
| Name | Class name. |
| Note: At least one class must remain unchecked. Select all will not submit until one class is cleared. |
3. Output
The third page of the Delete Classes wizard (Figure 3) is used to choose whether to replace the input layers or create new layers.
Overwrite Input LAS Layer(s)
Selected by default. Replaces the original LAS files with files that no longer contain the checked classes. Append and Output Folder are not used.
Before the files are replaced, confirm the overwrite. The original files are changed on disk. This cannot be undone from the dialog.
A file that has no points left is removed from the layer. If every file in a layer would be empty, that layer is not changed.
| Note: Output files are LAS. If a source file is LAZ, overwrite removes the LAZ file and writes a LAS file with the same name in the same folder. |
Create new LAS Layers and append name with
Leaves the original layers unchanged and adds new LAS layers to the map.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Append | Text added to each selected layer name. A suggestion is filled in from the classes selected on the previous page. Editing the text keeps your entry. |
| Output Folder | Folder for the new layers. The default is the project folder, then LAS\DeleteClass. The folder is created when you submit. Use ... to choose another folder. |
Each new layer is written in its own folder under the output folder, using the new layer name. Example: layer Flight1 and append _NoGround creates LAS\DeleteClass\Flight1_NoGround.
Suggested append text:
| Classes selected | Suggested append |
| One class, for example Ground | _NoGround |
| One class whose name has spaces or punctuation, for example Low Point (noise) | Spaces and punctuation are removed, for example _NoLowPointnoise |
| Two or more classes, but not all but one | _NoClass |
| Every class except one, for example only Ground remains | _OnlyGround |
If a layer with the new name is already on the map, or the destination folder already contains LAS files, confirm whether to overwrite that existing output.
Submit to Job Manager
Off by default. When checked, one job is submitted for each selected LAS layer. The jobs run one after another. The map is not updated until Complete is selected in Job Manager.
| Note: These jobs do not support Cancel in Job Manager. |
How to Delete Classes
- On the Classification tab or the AI Classification tab, in Cleanup Tools, select Delete Classes. The same command is on the Tools tab, in General.
- On LAS Layers, check the LAS layers to process. The active LAS layer is already checked.
- Select Next.
- On Classes, check the classes to remove. Leave at least one class unchecked.
- Select Next.
- On Output, choose how to save the result.
- Select Overwrite Input LAS Layer(s) to replace the original files.
- Select Create new LAS Layers and append name with to keep the original layers. Review Append and Output Folder.
- Leave Submit to Job Manager unchecked to run immediately, or check it to queue the work.
- Select Submit.
- If overwrite is selected, confirm that the original LAS files should be replaced.
- Finish the run.
- Immediate processing shows progress for each layer. When it finishes, the message is “Delete Classes completed successfully.”
- Job Manager processing queues one job per layer. When processing finishes, select Complete in Job Manager to update the map. Overwrite updates the existing layer. Create new adds the new layer.
| Note: If several layers are processed immediately and the run is cancelled or a later layer fails, layers that already finished stay changed. |
