Labels Property Page

A label is a text description of an object or area on the map for Feature Layers, or shapefile (.shp) layers. Labels can be any text description that identifies features. The label definitions are obtained from the layer's schema definition (or the associated .dbf file). For example, you can add location names, such as cities or states, elevation, or demographic information. The example below shows a map of the United States with labels displaying the Capital cities.
